Derozio Auditorium, Presidency College, Kolkata
Presidency University, Kolkata, established in 1817 and formerly known as Hindu College and Presidency College, is a globally respected iconic institution in the field of education. Sonodyne Technologies had the privilege of partnering with them and providing their best in class audio solutions for the famous Derozio Auditorium.
Hindu College, as it was earlier known was established by names such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, David Hare, Radhakanta Deb, Sir Edward Hyde East, Baidyanath Mukhodandhay and Rasamay Dutt. It has been a centre of learning for over 200 years during which its reputation has attracted faculty and students from across the world.
In 2016, as a part of their overall plan to enhance their infrastructure, Presidency University had undertaken various modernisation initiatives, one of which was to upgrade the famous Derozio Auditorium. Sonodyne Technologies, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, was a natural choice to be roped in to provide their world class speakers and audio solutions. Sonodyne, known for its extensive range of speakers, amplifiers and other audio equipment, has provided audio solutions to various iconic installations.
During multiple rounds of discussions and brainstorming regarding the extensive requirements of the venue, various options were evaluated. Derozio Auditorium was to host events with invitees from across the world and these would include Speeches and lectures during seminars and conferences, Drama and Performing arts, Musical events as well as other cultural soirees.
It was decided to move ahead with a combination of Sonodyne products to add significant value to the project. The auditorium sound featured CLA 72 line arrays, and PSS 381S subwoofers, and front of house speakers powered by AMH 3600 amplifiers. Align 400S column speakers powered by SY amps were used as side fills while XRS speakers were used as front fill. The products were selected on the basis of their power, performance, compactness, durability as well exceptional tonal quality. The speakers ensured full bodied sound, wide bandwidth as well as impressive SPL. The final combination of top notch products ensured that the venue was ready for any type of audio requirement– whether a seminar or a massive cultural program
With a team of installers and audio specialists, AV integrators working closely, within a period of 3 weeks, the entire project was completed, commissioned and handed over. The project was successfully handed over and became a part of Presidency University’s 2017 Centenary Celebrations.
